Vectorization of seismic sections presented in paper as well as their conversion into SEG-Y format is an effective way of the retrospective data recovery. Digitization allows not only to save the data but also to make digital processing of time sections using special geophysical software, with possibility of further interpretation of these data along with modern data.

Seismic sections, included within the package of graphical addendums in geological reports, are usually of a bad quality. Preparation of such sections for vectorization, required an intricate work at interactive (manual) mode, including clipping, joint and, if necessary, cleaning of the superpositioned correlation and structural images carried out with color pencils (markers).

Software, hardware and seismic sections vectorization procedure.

Methodically, the operations should be organized as follows:

  1. Scanning of time sections using ProScan 6030C (format A0) or Unax Mirrage IIc (format A3) scanners
  2. Editing of patterns of the time sections using raster graphical editor;
  3. Vectorization of time sections raster images to the SEG-Y format using SeisFile-software (SeiScan, England);
  4. Editing and joint of time sections;
  5. Filling of the EBCDIC headers, binary and seismic trace headers.
